Career in Data Analytics or Data Science | Business Intelligence

September 7, 2019 ABHISHEK GUPTA

It is said that a Job/Career in Data Science, Data Analytics or Business Intelligence will be the most sought-after job for next 2-3 decades.

For the purpose of this article and even in the world of careers, the terms like Data Analytics, Data Intelligence, Data Science & Business Intelligence are overlapping. They basically refer to continuous investigation and analysis of past business performance to gain insights and to drive business planning. It used to gain insights of past business performance which helps to make decisions & can be used to automate and optimize business process.

Analytics is the use of data and technology to improve decisions. It can be as simple as accessing customer contact information to send a customer a new product offering, or as complex as watching financial transaction patterns and detecting money laundering activities in real time.

The point of analytics is to help businesses—and business people—refine the decisions they make in order to save their companies money, protect them from fraud, comply with regulations, and generate revenues based on fact, not gut-feel. It’s all about being what they call ‘data driven.

While you feel that Google is a Search Engine, Facebook – Instagram are Social Networking platforms, Amazon is a e-commerce platform, BUT in reality all of these and many many more like these are just Data Driven companies.

They are thriving on your and my data. They know more about us and then we know and Yes this is a reality. Facebook through its data mining and intelligence knows everything about you: your likes, dislikes, family, location, travel plans, purchase history, your car, your mobile phone model, your age, your marital status, your spouse, your children, your facial pattern etc etc etc. Similarly it is with other companies.

90% of the world’s data has been created in the last 2 years and it is expected to grow 50 times by 2020 (source: Aureus Analytics). The ability to analyze this data is not increasing proportionally, leading to a huge shortage of qualified candidates in this space.
